VISALIA, CA — A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect today, Jan. 28, 2026, for the San Joaquin Valley and other parts of the Central Valley.

According to KSEE24 News, the advisory covers two specific time periods. The first began at 1 a.m. today and remains in effect until 11 a.m. A second round of fog is expected to start tonight at 11 p.m. and will last through noon Thursday.

Visibility is expected to fall to 800 feet or less and could drop to zero in some areas. These conditions will likely make travel dangerous on the region’s main roads and highways while the alerts are in place.

Low visibility will likely affect these major roads:

  • Highway 99
  • Interstate 5 from the Lost Hills area heading south
  • Highway 198
  • Highway 43
  • Highway 180
  • Highway 41

The heavy fog will likely stay over the valley until the advisory ends Thursday morning.
