MADERA, CA — Nearly 300 workers in Madera County are losing their jobs as two local businesses prepare to close their doors.
According to YourCentralValley.com, the companies are following different schedules for their shutdowns. Mission Bell Winery, which has been part of the community for more than 100 years, should finish its layoffs by the end of January 2026.
Meanwhile, JBT Marel Corporation is finalizing its plans to close its facility. That move will eliminate 57 jobs, with those layoffs scheduled to begin on Sept. 18, 2026.
State and local officials, including Assemblymember Esmerelda Soria and County Supervisor David Rogers, confirmed that Madera County is ready to help. The county will help workers apply for unemployment benefits and find resources for their job search.
Resources for Workers
Affected residents can visit the Madera County Workforce Assistance Center for support. Located at 2037 W. Cleveland Ave., the center offers several free resources to help people find a new job.
Free services include:
- Help writing resumes
- Job interview practice
- Career advice
Officials encourage all affected employees to contact the center and start using these resources immediately. While these closures are a big change for the community, officials said support programs are in place for all workers losing their jobs.
