TULARE, CA — Several local high school basketball teams stayed undefeated this week, led by strong wins from the Mission Oak girls and the Tulare Union boys.
West Yosemite League Competition
The Mission Oak girls basketball team became the only undefeated girls team in the West Yosemite League after defeating Tulare Union 49-34 on Jan. 15. Braelyn Serpa led the Mission Oak Hawks with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers. According to the Visalia Times-Delta, the victory improved Mission Oak’s record to 16-4 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Tulare Union boys team remained perfect in the league following a 74-36 victory over Mission Oak on Jan. 15. The win improved their record to 20-1 overall and 3-0 in the league. Melvin Lopez recorded a "double-double"—reaching double digits in two categories—highlighted by a game-high 20 rebounds. High scorers Brayden Stevenson (24 points) and Demaje Riley (20 points) also led the way for Tulare Union.
Earlier in the week, the Tulare Union boys beat Hanford 80-65 on Jan. 13, led by 33 points from Stevenson and 23 from Riley. The squad also opened league play on Jan. 9 with a 52-41 victory over Lemoore.
The Tulare Union girls, though losing on Jan. 15, secured a 70-31 win against Hanford on Jan. 13. In that game, Jazzy Miller recorded a "triple-double"—reaching double digits in three different stats—with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals.
Central Valley Christian Results
Central Valley Christian (CVC) saw success with both its boys and girls teams this week.
The CVC girls team improved to 2-0 in the Tri-County Sequoia League after a 59-44 win against Kingsburg on Jan. 15. Ally Lane led the Cavaliers with 34 points, while Kate Verhoeven recorded a double-double. The win helped the team bounce back from a 72-16 non-league loss to Immanuel on Jan. 13.
The CVC boys team moved to a 16-3 overall record after winning two games. On Jan. 14, the Cavaliers secured a 67-43 win against Exeter, where Grant Hyde led the way with 19 points. The team also won its conference opener on Jan. 9, defeating Selma 78-43. In that game, the squad hit 14 total 3-pointers, with Hyde, Jaaron Dodson, and Jayden Bergman all contributing from the three-point line.
