VISALIA, CA — Visalia police and crisis workers responded Friday morning to reports of a woman armed with a knife on the 1400 block of South Central Street.

The incident began shortly after 10 a.m. when authorities were called because a woman refused to put down her weapon. According to the Visalia Police Department, officers and crisis workers stayed at the scene throughout the morning to help calm the woman and resolve the situation safely.

Divisidero School went into a temporary lockdown due to the nearby police activity. Police lifted the lockdown later Friday morning after confirming the area was secure and students were safe. Authorities said the situation was limited to one area and did not put the school at risk.

The Visalia Police Department closed off the block and asked the public to stay away from the South Central Street area until the situation was resolved. Police did not immediately release more information about the woman or how the incident ended.
