HANFORD, CA — Wimpy’s Burgers officially opened its newest restaurant at 418 N. Irwin St. on Monday, Jan. 26. Local reports say the grand opening drew long lines of customers as the franchise expanded into the Hanford community.
The Hanford site is the fifth restaurant for the business, which is owned and operated by brothers Willy and Duval Espinoza. The brothers chose Hanford as part of their plan to bring the family business to more towns throughout the region.
Aziz Attaran founded Wimpy’s Burgers in Tulare during the early 1990s. The Espinoza brothers eventually took over the operation, bringing experience from their family’s other restaurant, Los Arbolitos, which has served Farmersville since 1993. The brothers renovated the first Tulare restaurant in 2016 while keeping the founder’s signature burger and seasoning recipes.
The brand has grown steadily across the Central Valley over the last several years:
- In 2017, the Dinuba location opened near the downtown area and the local high school.
- The Visalia location opened downtown in 2018, featuring an updated menu that introduced craft beer.
- In 2020, the franchise opened its fourth location in Lemoore, the company's first with a drive-thru.
In addition to its five restaurants, the business operates a food truck that caters events throughout the Central Valley.
