Recipe Details
- Yields: 4
- Prep Time: 90 min
- Cook Time: 30 min
- Total Time: 120 min
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour 3 cups
- Active dry yeast 1 tbsp
- Sugar 2 tbsp
- Warm Milk 1 cup
- Butter melted 2 tbsp
- Oil - little to grease
- Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast and sugar with the warm milk and stir the mixture well. Allow it to sit undisturbed for 3-5 minutes.
- Add the flour and salt to a large bowl and whisk them together. Gradually incorporate the flour into the wet ingredients, adding small amounts of extra flour as needed to ensure the dough doesn't stick to the sides of the bowl.
- Once the dough has reached a soft consistency, apply a light coating of oil and cover the bowl with a soft cloth. Let the dough rest for 2–3 hours.
- Turn the dough out and knead it once more, adding a light dusting of all-purpose flour. Continue kneading until the dough is completely smooth.
- Divide the dough into 4 even portions and shape each into a ball. Roll the balls out until they reach your desired thickness, roughly the size of a small tortilla.
- Place the prepared naan onto a baking tray lined with foil. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 C for 30-35 minutes.
- After removing from the oven, brush the tops generously with melted butter. Slice into four pieces and serve immediately while warm.
Tips for Success
To ensure your dough rises properly, make sure the milk is warm to the touch but not boiling, as high heat can deactivate the yeast. When rolling out your dough, aim for a uniform thickness to ensure even baking. For the best experience, serve this bread immediately after brushing with butter while the texture is at its softest.
There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of serving fresh, warm bread made entirely from scratch!
